Our angel has arrived!

Wilder James Sears soared into this realm on 12/12/2020 at 7:56 pm after an 18 hr labour at home. Weighing in at 8 lbs & 20 inches long, our little guy was just about to cross the 41-week mark. I can’t believe I guessed the right birth date!

The Labour

My labour kicked off at 2 am Saturday morning with strong contractions that lasted 30 secs long & were 5 mins apart. They progressed consistently for the next 18 hrs with no break or slow in their pace. Becoming more intense & closer together.

The pain was far beyond anything I’ve ever experienced in my life or anticipated heading into this process. There were moments near the end where I was ready to go to the hospital because I thought I couldn’t tolerate the intensity any more.

I’m SO grateful my amazing birth team was there to empower me to keep going. They knew how much I wanted a natural, pain med free, home birth for our family.

I dug deeper than I knew was possible, surrendered to the pain & pushed hard to the finish line.

The Birth

The moment I looked down & saw Wilders upper body & reached down to bring him up onto my chest was the greatest ecstasy & relief I’ve ever known!

Along the journey, I was guided by my amazing midwife & her assistants. They helped my labour progress in ways I didn’t know existed. Mental, emotional & physical support was just the beginning.

I’m forever grateful for their expertise. Had I been in a hospital, I most likely would have ended up with a C section & many interventions that I didn’t want.

I spent a lot of time in my warm birth pool & the shower to ease the pain of the contractions. What a BLESSING!

Though I loved being in the water, I ended up pushing Wilder out on our bed where gravity could help.

JP was by my side the entire labour cheering me on through every contraction, push & tear while helping the birth team in every way he could.

Our hearts have expanded to unimaginable proportions. We are SO madly in love. I seriously stare at Wilder all day in disbelief that he’s real.

My body feels like it was hit by a train, but I’m resting super well & soaking in every precious newborn moment.

Much Love,

Amber Sears
