It takes a village to raise children. More specifically, it takes the wisdom of multiple generations of women. One of the greatest lessons I’ve learned thus far on my journey.

Yesterday I had my 6-week postpartum checkup with my wonderful midwife @monika_stone_midwife. It was a bittersweet session, to say the least. I will miss her SO much!

Monika expertly guided me with compassion, grace & strength through the most challenging period of my life thus far.

I put my full trust & faith in her every step of the way & she held me through the major highs & lows with ease.

I had 16 one hour sessions with her prior to my labour & three 90 min sessions with her postpartum. Plus my 18 hr home birth, which I couldn’t have done without her 20 years of expertise.

Within these sessions, she taught & advised me on every aspect of the journey from a natural holistic perspective. From nutrition to breastfeeding, to how to cope with the emotions, to infant care…she was my go-to resource & confidant.

I LOVE the midwife model of care! It takes into account that women need mental, emotional, spiritual & physical support. Not just a 10 min OBGYN visit to check vitals.

I’m forever grateful for Monika’s guidance & emotional support over the last 11 months. I look forward to working with her again in a few years when we are ready for baby number 2!

Over the last 2.5 weeks, we’ve also had the pleasure of my mother in law, Meg, staying with us to help with Wilder. Not only did I super appreciate all of her help, but it was INCREDIBLE to feel the support of another wise mama.

I think it’s a crime against humanity that our modern Western culture glorifies the nuclear family idea, where women are expected to raise their babies alone.

Nothing could be farther from ideal. Women need each other. Humans need community. Community support is not a luxury, it’s vital to our health, happiness & all future generations.

One of the many reasons I love travelling & living in other cultures around the world is because they get this concept. Community is a core value that allows these cultures & their children to truly thrive

Much Love,
