Tiger balm oozes from my pores today. After a week of cross training with the Nike Training App at the ranch and an intense three hour dance audition on Sunday my body is unhappy with me. I know when I push myself too hard because my overuse injuries from years ago begin to flare. I hold my stress in my right shoulder and if I continue to overwork my low back and sacrum take a beating. The body humbles the mind quickly!
Funny enough I ran into a buddy of mine today who extensively trains and competes in mixed martial arts. CJ was prepping for a fight last month and gave himself a hernia during an all out gym session. He can’t stand up for long periods of time now, but his smile radiates.
We’ve all been there at one point or another. Passionate beyond belief, pushing ourselves to the max and then one day our bodies just say no.
I don’t share these stories to freak you out and halt your fit fun. The silver lining in any injury, big or small, is the lesson our bodies teach over and over. The art of listening, maintaining balance and above all else, gratitude.
We must cherish our strong bodies, listen clearly when we push boundaries, and calm the ego to learn when to back off.
So instead of pushing my interval training this week as part of the Nike Challenge, I’ve decided to practice sequences under the Get Focused category to target the muscle groups surrounding the fatigued and overworked guys. My legs are overly trained so I’m loving the Arm Definer 15 min workout every morning. Plank row’s are ridiculously challenging when done properly. Do you have questions about form?
